Southern Season and Dad's New Car

Happy New Year's Eve!  As we're gearing up for a fun evening of games, old friends, and snacks, I thought I'd share one of my new favorite store experiences with you - Southern Season.  But first...

Last Saturday, we went to Raleigh to pick up my dad's newwwwww car!  He'd been looking for a new car for some time, and finally settled on the 2013 Avalon.  Toyota totally updated the body of the car - it's much sportier now - and it drives even more smoothly than his last one.  It's got lots of neat bells and whistles too, like heated seats, navigation, a bluetooth phone system that connects with your cell phone, and a "blind spot" warning system that flashes when someone may be hiding to your left or right!  So cool!

When we left the dealership, we decided to head over to Southern Season in Chapel Hill.  I've heard awesome things about this place, but had never been before, so I was excited!

Southern Season is a huuuuuuge store full of specialty food, wines, kitchen gadgets, home decor, coffee and teas...you name it!  Apparently their restaurant is delicious too, but we weren't able to stay for dinner.

The perimeter of the store had different shops - a coffee bar, candy shop, old-timey ice cream store, a bakery & cheese shop, and a prepared food bar (which I literally had to drag husband away from).

The center of the huge warehouse is sectioned off into different categories.  We started in the kitchen gadgets and then wove through every section, eyeing all the goodies.  Being December, there were lots of really cute Christmas things I wanted.  The thought of having to haul everything back to Boston was enough of a deterrent to keep me from buying everything in sight, though.  :)

We went home with some chocolate truffles for dad (which were devoured on Christmas day), some Angry Bird gummy candies for Mark's stocking, some crazy NC pickles for Trav's composition teacher (a pickle fanatic), and a North Carolina-shaped cheese board for me!

If you're in the Raleigh area, this is a must-see.  So much fun!

  1. Oh my goodness - you'd have to drag me out of there. So glad we're only 6 hours away and have family in the area. (wink)

Great pictures of the place also! I think Bill could just drop me off when they open, spend hours with his brother and maybe pick me back up before they close. Hmmm....

Thanks for sharing! Reia from www.southcountrysides.blogspot.com

  3. It's one of my favorite places to shop. We've been going since it was a small store, they've moved locations three times to get to this massive one.

In the very back is state of the art are for cooking classes. It's AMAZING. They have it set up so there are flat screens showing the cook speaking and showing what they are working on. We did a class last year with friends and it was such fun.

Truly it's a great spot. They are opening in Charleston soon and I'm sure they'll be a huge hit there.

  7. Great car, isn’t it? Not surprised your Dad chose that model. You see, my brother just bought one in Sizzling Crimson Mica color. He’s been bragging about how it has the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and the PCS (Pre-Collision System). Sounds pretty high-tech, right? I have been begging him for weeks now to let me drive it.

  8. @Stelle: I think it would take months before your brother will let you drive his car. Hahaha! As a guy, I think it’s just normal for us to be egocentric sometimes. Haha! There are those moments that we really don’t want to share our stuff with others especially when it is very precious to us. But, soon after, your brother will allow you for sure! :D Just wait for that! :p

  10. Your Dad must be feeling ecstatic! I bet there is an overwhelming excitement while driving his new car, while thinking of the place you can visit. The new adventures you will have with the quieter and modern technology of 2013 Avalon is definitely something to look forward to. And those are some good store to shop at! Did you use your Dad’s new car to go there?

  11. I'm not surprised that your dad chose that car. I've been eying one lately in the Sizzling Crimson Mica color just like Stelle’s brother. Avalon's interior is so sleek and sexy; it feels like you’re always riding in first class.
