Sunday afternoon, The Gentlemen's Very (Very) High Art Society of South Waltham performed at
Waltham's Steampunk Festival. The GV(V)HAS is a made up of composers and musicologists at Brandeis University, and if you couldn't guess, their name reflects their silly nature. :)
If you've been following along for long, you know Travis has an infatuation with the Steampunk movement. Last fall we went to a
Steampunk Fashion Day in Lowell, MA, which further peaked his interest. The steampunk look is the blending of 19th century Victorian and what they might have imagined as "futuristic" - aka steam technology. Think Victorian clothes, but with clocks, steam gadgets, corsets on the outside...anything goes really. When Travis found out the Waltham Steampunk Festival was looking for bands to play this year, the group immediately signed up!
We got there a little early so we could explore some of the vendors and people watch (which is by far the most entertaining thing to do at a Steampunk event)! There were SO many people dressed up - it was awesome! Here are some shots from the day.

Once their set was over, it was time for the closing ceremonies. The ceremony started with a caravan of Steampunks who marched through the common and ended up at the gazebo, and included performances by most of the acts from earlier in the day (including the Gentlemen).
It was a perfect day to enjoy some local flare! Go Gentlemen!
